The 2nd Sub – regional Workshop on International merchandise trade statistics (IMTS) was facilitated by EU-ASEAN COMPASS project (the EU-ASEAN Capacity Building Project for Monitoring Integration Process and Statistics) on the 7th of October 2015 in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
This Workshop followed up the 1st one held in Siem Reap, Cambodia from 10th -12th March 2015 that defined a work program for the year 2015. This second Workshop was aim to:
- Summarize actions launched in the Cambodia, Lao, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) countries in the first year of the COMPASS Project;
- Present work plans defined by each country in order to reduce the gaps in the definition and the production of IMTS data;
- Define priority actions to be launched in the 2nd year of the Project.
Mr. Henri Tyrman, key expert on IMTS chaired the Workshop and the representatives of Customs and National Statistical Offices of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam, also ASEANStats presented their work plan for the 2nd year 2016. All the participants had deeply discussed and defined a tentative work plan for the CLMV countries in 2016.
The overall objective of COMPASS project is to support ASEAN integration through the availability and utilization of more timely, comparable and relevant information to facilitate monitoring and decision-making, notably by AMS governments acting individually and at ASEAN level. And this second workshop is one activity in the framework of the COMPASS.
