Highlights of bilateral merchandise trade between Vietnam and France during the period of 2008-2012

Trade statistics disseminated  by Vietnam Customs showed that in the period of 2008-2012, merchandise trade between Vietnam and France grew at a high and stable rate
According to the trade statistics of Vietnam Customs (except for the 2009 with the world economic crisi, drop in exports to France that led to trade deficit), Vietnam always retained the trade surplus in bilateral merchandise trade with France for the period of 2008-2012. Notably, in 2012, trade surplus between Vietnam and France was nearly USD 0.6 billion, 1.3 times higher than 2011 and 4.6 times higher than 2010.

 


In 2012, the total export value of Vietnam to France reached USD 2.16 billion, sharply rose by 30% as compared to 2011. As a result, France was ranked at 4th place among the Europe exporters of Vietnam and 15th place among all the exporters in the world. The reason for thereof increase is the high growth rate in export value of some commodities such as: computer, electrical products, spare parts and component thereof (3 times higher than 2011); telephone, mobile phone and parts thereof (rose by 65% as compared to 2011); coffee (rose by 114% as compared to the year of 2011).
According to Vietnam Customs Statistics, telephone, mobile phone and parts thereof; foot-wear and computer, electrical products, spare parts and component thereof … were the main export commodities of Vietnam to France in 2012.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2012, the total import value of Vietnam from France gained USD 1.6 billion, 31.9% higher than 2011. The highest growth rate witnessed to some commodities such as: iron and steel (rose by 117%); milk and milk products (rose by 107%); other means of transportation, parts and accessories thereof (rose by 111.8%).
Main commodities which were imported into Vietnam of origin from France in 2012 included: other means of transportation, parts and accessories thereof (USD) 652 million, accounted for more than 41% of total import value from France); pharmaceutical products (USD 253 million and accounted for 16% of total import value from France); machine, equipment, tools and instrument (USD 179 million)…
 


 
 
From January to August 2013, the total merchandise trade between Vietnam and France reached USD 2 billion, 11.3% less than the same period of 2012. In which, export value was USD 1.27 billion (slightly rose by 0.7%) and import value was USD 0.68 billion (deeply climbed down by 27.6%).
In the first 8 months of 2013, computer, electric products, spare-parts and component thereof; telephone, mobile phone and part thereof were the main exported commodities to France. In the meanwhile, pharmaceutical products, machine, equipment, tools and instrument…were the main commodities that were imported into Vietnam originating from France.
 
 

 

As showed by the above table, France is currently ranked at 4th place of all the European exporters to Vietnam and 20th place of all the exporters in the world. In the view of import side, rank of France is 6th of all the markets that Vietnam exported to.
