The aims of the course focus directly on collecting, processing, data quality checking and dissemination of the international merchandise trade statistics in Vietnam. The training course is also part of the Trade Statistics Training Programme of the EU-ASEAN Statistical Capacity Building Project (EASCAB), whose overall goal is to support the ASEAN integration process through more and more accurate statistics and facilitating the decision-making process of leaders at various levels for ASEAN member states. During this training course, the presentations are made by speakers from General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), Vietnam Customs and Mr. Romesh Paul, who is the Team Leader and Senior IMTS Expert of the EASCAB Programme and has been working for years in trade statistics.
Participants of training Course
Participants of the training include representatives from relevant Ministries and Administrations (Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Trade, ..), managers and officers who are in charge of customs statistics from 31 city and provincial Customs Departments and officers from relevant Departments at the Headquarter (Post-Clearance Audit, Anti-Smuggling and Investigation, Supervision and Control, Import and Export Tax, Office of General Affairs and Vietnam Customs School) as well as also managers and officers working at Information Technology and Customs Statistics Department who are responsible for compiling international merchandise trade statistics for Vietnam.
From January 12th to 15th 2011, the trainees have been equipped with definitions and concepts of trade statistics as recommended by the UN’s Statistics Division. Those recommendations have been legalized in a newly-signed Circular no. 168 by Minister of Finance detailing guidance on IMTS compilation methodology and practices used by General Department of Vietnam Customs. Participants also have a chance to enhance their skills for examining and checking quality of international trade statistics by directly doing exercises on Tariff Statistics Programme and taking multiple choice tests using computer. This is a new improvement in the training course organized by General Department of Vietnam Customs.
