On 14 Dec 2018, the review meeting for the performance of the Port Control Unit (PCU) is held at Da Nang Customs Department and chaired by the Deputy Director General of Customs General, Mr.Hoang Viet Cuong.
Container Control Program (CCP) under Program 1 "transnational organized Crime and illegal Trafficking" in the framework of the Vietnam National Program of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the period 2012-2017 which was signed in July 2012 between the Government of Vietnam (represented by the Ministry of Planning and Investment) and UNODC.
In Vietnam, approved by the Government, the Ministry of Finance (General Department of Vietnam Customs) has joined the CPP since February 2015.
The CCP has been deployed at Hai Phong Customs Department since March 2015 and at Ba Ria - Vung Tau Customs Department since May 2017. Today (14 Dec 2018), the CCP is deployed at Da Nang Customs Department. It is expected to launch the CCP at Ho Chi Minh Customs Department in January 2019.
PCU of Danang Customs Department is set up in the model of the unit to apply advanced risk management measures combined with anti-smuggling control activities to improve efficiency of controlling containers at seaports in Da Nang city. The Unit has the task of receiving and processing information and applying port control measures to prevent and combat crimes of smuggling and illegal transportation of banned goods in the seaports in Da Nang.
Over the past several years, illegal trade and transportation of goods such as drugs, wildlife and toxic waste…have been happened seriously. Vietnamese Customs has taken measures to prevent such actions and achieved certain results. However, the tricks and forms of illegal transportation of organized crimes are increasingly sophisticated and complex, demanding the efforts of the whole sector in controlling, combating and smuggling.
The implementation of the Container Control Program will contribute to effective monitoring and supervision of freight transport by container, step by step improving investment environment and enhancing competitive capacity of Vietnamese enterprises.
