Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of December, 2014

The Vietnam Customs Statistics reported that in the second half of December-2014, the total value of  Vietnam’s exports of  US dollars 7.05 billion and imports of US dollars 7.73 billion resulted in a traded deficit  of US dollars 679 million. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of  December was US dollars 14.78 billion, up by 21.9% as compared to the first half of December-2014 (equivalent to USD 1.12 billion).

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in 12 months of  2014 totaled US dollars 298.24 billion in value terms which expanded by 12.9% as compared to the performance of same period last year. In which, the total merchandise exports valued US dollars 150.19 billion, moved up by 13.7% and the total merchandise imports valued US dollars 148.05 billion, went up by 12.1%. Therefore,  Vietnam was in trade surplus of over USD 2.14 billion in that period.
In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in 2014 reached USD 178.18 billion, up by 14.7% in comparison to 2013.
Export:

s compared to the first half of December-2014, the second half of the month increase in the total export value (21.1% - USD 1.23 billion equally) is reflected by upturn in textiles and garments (up by USD 312 million); foot-wear (up by USD 118 million); machine, equipment, tools and instrument (up by USD 79 million); fishery products (up by USD 89 million); wood and wooden products (up by USD 85 million); iron and steel (up by USD 68 million)…

It was also showed by Vietnam Customs Statistics that export value of some commodities shrunk in the second half of December, which included: telephone, mobile phones and part thereof (down by USD 19 million); rice (down by USD 18 million); computer, electrical products, spare-parts and component thereof (down by USD 13 million)…

Import:
The first half to second half of December increase in the total of import value (22.7%) reflected upturn in: machine, equipment, tools and instrument (up by USD 254 million); irons and steels (up by USD 124 million); computer, electrical products, spare-parts and component thereof (down by USD 124 million); petroleum products (up by USD 87 million); telephone, mobile phones and parts thereof (up by USD 64 million); fabrics (up by USD 55 million)…

Shrunk occurred in importation of some commodities such as: fertilizer (down by USD 19 million);  other base metal (down by USD 19 million)…
