Background and Invitation to Participate in the VCIS Discovery Workshop

The General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC) is undergoing a programme of strengthening governance in Customs administration and increasing the level of traders’ voluntary compliance by improving the effectiveness, efficiency, transparency and accountability of the GDVC.

A major component of this programme is the procurement and implementation of a Vietnam Customs Information System (VCIS).  In order to provide GDVC a better understanding of currently-available commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) Customs Information Systems (CIS), GDVC has scheduled a “VCIS Discovery Workshop” whereby  existing CIS  COTS solution providers (Vendors) are invited to visit Hanoi to meet with GDVC officials in one-on-one (GDVC and a single Vendor) workshop sessions over a one to two day period to provide an overview of their solution and demonstrate their solution in the context of scenarios provided to them by GDVC. 

The Workshop is expected to take place from around 14 June 2010.

It should be noted that:

1) the VCIS Discovery Workshop is not part of the bidding process for VCIS; and

2) participation in the VCIS Discovery Workshop is voluntary and is not a pre-condition for a Vendor participating in the later procurement of VCIS.
