Compilation of Customs statistics in general and compilation of international merchandise trade statistics of Vietnam in particular is one of the main tasks of General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Since 1996, foreign merchandise trade data has been collected, processed, provided and disseminated by Vietnam Customs as an independent data producer in Vietnam. Trade statistics plays an important role in policy-making, macroeconomic management and other purposes by the Government, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Planning and Investment, State Bank of Vietnam, the General Statistics Office and other line governmental ministries/agencies as well as General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Currently, changes, developments and trends of the external merchandise trade activities of Vietnam have increasingly getting more attention of many Vietnamese as well as foreign users. For the purposes of disseminating the latest and up-to-date foreign merchandise trade statistics of Vietnam to the public users, General Department of Vietnam Customs will post Vietnam international merchandise trade statistics of 2009, 2010, 2011 and years to come. Those trade statistics will be updated monthly on Vietnam Customs Website at "Vietnam International Merchandise Trade Statistics" page at the following address: www.customs.gov.vn. Those trade statistics include as follows:

- Monthly statistics of main exports and main imports of Vietnam;
- Analysis of the main developments, features and trends of imports and exports of Vietnam as well as other thematic analyses;
- Other related trade statistics and documents to be online in the future.

General Department of Vietnam Customs would like to receive comments and feedbacks from users in order to improve the diversification and quality of Vietnam international merchandise trade statistics as well as users’ accessibility in coming time.
